Shirley Mae Van Camp

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Shirley Mae Van Camp, who left this world peacefully on August 4, 2026, surrounded by the warmth of her family. Born on September 12, 1939, in Goodson, Missouri, Shirley was the cherished daughter of Chester and Opal Hale. Her life was a beautiful testament to love, dedication, and profound kindness. Shirley grew up with fond memories of working in the family store, Hale's Grocery and Bait, in Huron, Missouri. After graduating with the Bolivar High School class of 1957, she met Frank "Frankie" Joe Van Camp while he was delivering Coca-Cola to the store. They were married on April 14, 1960, and shared a life filled with devotion until Frankie's passing in 1999. For over 25 years, Shirley was a beloved presence at Wal-Mart. She found her true calling as the cashier everyone sought out; her radiant smile and genuine interest in others left a lasting impression on everyone she served, no matter how long the line. Beyond her work, Shirley found great joy in life’s simple pleasures, from the music at Bluegrass festivals to cherished family vacations with Frank and Scott. Her family was her greatest pride. She was a devoted mother to her son, Scott, whose achievements as a pilot filled her with immense joy. Her kitchen was the heart of her home, where the scent of her perfect pie crusts and "Grandma cookies" always welcomed her loved ones. She never let a birthday pass without a perfect dinner and a made-from-scratch cake, and she never let family leave without a big hug and a wave from the porch until they were out of sight. She was preceded in death by her parents, Chester and Opal Hale; her beloved husband, Frankie Joe; her sister, Kay Holt; and her brother, Ronald Hale. Shirley's memory will be forever cherished by her son, Scott, and his wife, Yvonne; her grandchildren, Spencer (Jessica) Van Camp, Morgan (Joseph) Ereon, and Garrett Van Camp; and her great-grandchildren, Braxton and Kinsley Van Camp, and Grayson and Jettson Ereon. Shirley's legacy of kindness and devotion will forever remain in the hearts of those she touched. She will be deeply missed. Our family would also like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Bradford Assisted Living in Nixa, Missouri, for taking such wonderful care of Shirley over these last six years. Services for Shirley will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2026. Visitation will be from 9:00 A.M. until the start of the service at 10:00 A.M. Burial will be held at Mt. View cemetery in Polk, Missouri. Memorial donations may be made to the Mt. View Cemetery in Polk, Missouri.
