Russell Glenn Coffin

Russell Coffin, 85, of Humansville passed away Monday evening, August 26, 2013 at the Harry S. Truman Veterans Hospital in Columbia, Missouri. He was one of 5 sons born to Harry and Lulu Rima Coffin in Cedar County near Humansville. He attended a 1 room school at Prairie Mounds near Humansville for 7 and a half years. Russell served in the US Army during the Korean War. He worked at several occupations during his lifetime. His working career began at the age of 14 when he went to Kansas to follow the wheat harvest with his brothers which he did for several seasons. He worked for Crawford Oil as a truck driver, drove a milk route, worked for Witt Printing Company, and worked at the cheese factory in Humansville. While living in Texas he worked as a shrimper in the Galveston Bay and worked as a union carpenter in the construction industry. Russell and Brenda returned to Humansville in 1987. At one time he owned the Nifty Caf in Bolivar. Russell's favorite hobbies were hunting, fishing, and playing golf and he tried pursue them as often as possible. He was always fixing things, re-working and rebuilding to suit his needs. He was very particular about his craftsmanship and the quality of his work. He took pride in his garden and enjoyed sharing the produce. Russell was preceded in death by his parents; sons Russell Dale and Brett Ray Coffin; his brothers Gerald, Raymond, Bill, and Haskell Coffin. He is survived by his wife Brenda of the home; son Robert Gale Coffin and his companion Ida Petrie of Franklin Square, New York; daughter Sandra Ashby and her husband Peter of Windsor-Berkshire, England; daughter-in-law Jeri Coffin; 6 grandchildren Krissa, Nicholas, Jessica, Katrina, Russell Jr., and Kathy; 2 great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law Lois Coffin of Humansville. Funeral services for Russell Coffin will be held 10:00 AM Saturday, August 31, 2013 at the Murray Funeral Home in Humansville officiated by Bro. Michael Calhoun with burial immediately following in the Humansville Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Nicholas Coffin, Russell Coffin, Jr., DeWayne Coffin, Dale Coffin, Jim Stacy, and Dee Stacy.
