Robert "Lucky" Lee Jenkins

Robert Lee “Lucky” Jenkins, 85, went home to be with the Lord on June 6, 2024, at Citizens Memorial Health Care Facility in Bolivar, MO. Lucky Jenkins was born August 12, 1938, in Bolivar, MO to Robert Jenkins and Jannie Olena (Huggins) Jenkins. Lucky has 5 brothers. He graduated from Bolivar High School in 1956. On December 30, 1960, he was united in marriage to Dixie Ann Hines and to this union one daughter, Robin Ann, was born. Lucky was in the Army Reserves in the 1960’s and began working for the United States Postal Service in 1970. Lucky walked a postal route for 22 years in the neighborhoods of Bolivar. At one point his route was in the same neighborhood as his mother’s house, so he stopped and ate lunch with her every day. After retiring from the postal service in 1992, he built houses and farmed on their place near Morrisville. They sold the farm and moved to Bolivar in 2010. Lucky enjoyed watching NASCAR races and rooting for the St. Louis Cardinals. He also liked to go fishing and quail and pheasant hunting. He was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Bolivar. Lucky served as bus driver for the church that picked up children for Sunday School. He was attending Mount Gilead Methodist Church at the time of his death, where Dixie’s grandfather, Rev. W. M. Hines, had been a pastor in the 1930’s and 40’s. Lucky served on the Cemetery Board for Mt. Gilead Cemetery for several years. For a few years he and his daughter, Robin, got up early in the morning on Memorial Day to decorate the graves with flags for the veterans buried in the cemetery. Lucky was preceded in death by his wife, Dixie, in 2021 and his parents and grandparents. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Bill Jenkins, sister-in-law, Darlene Jenkins, and brother-in-law Charlie Long. Survivors include his daughter Robin Jenkins of Bolivar; his brothers Don Jenkins (Lynn) of Bolivar, John Jenkins (Joyce) of Bolivar, Dean Jenkins (Mary) of Garland, Texas, Gene Jenkins (Deana) of Fair Play; his two godchildren, niece Sharon Long Muir (Rob) of Kansas City and nephew Paul Long (Brenda) of Bolivar; his two sisters-in-law, Kay Long of Bolivar and Georgene Goranson of Bolivar; and several nephews and nieces. Graveside Services for Robert (Lucky) Jenkins will be at 11:00 AM at Mount Gilead Cemetery in Bolivar on Monday, June 10, 2024. Lucky’s family requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to CMH Hospice or Mt. Gilead Methodist Church in Bolivar.
