O'Neal Scott

ONeal Scott, age 90, of Bolivar, Missouri passed away on Wednesday morning, April 28, 2010 at his home in Bolivar, Missouri with his family by his side after a short illness. He was born March 12, 1920 in Leon, Iowa and grew up in Ringgold County, Iowa, where he met his future wife, Joyce Elaine Overholtzer. ONeal and Joyce were married on August 22, 1948 and moved to Springfield, Missouri where they were owners and operators of Snow White Lodge and Station on Old Route 66. ONeal and Joyce moved to Bolivar in 1954, where they lived and raised their seven children. ONeal was a long time Farmer and Agricultural Lime Vendor. He served on the Polk County Republican Committee for over 40 years, was a member and Deacon Emeritus of the First Christian Church of Bolivar, and was a World War II Veteran serving in the United States Army. His hobbies included creating beautiful wood crafts, caring for his yard, and sharing fun times with his family. He was a devoted church member and always had a smile, a hug, and a kind word for everyone he met. ONeal was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew Floyd and Alta Mae (Sears) Scott, a brother, Donald Scott, a son-in-law, Ronald Houk, and a granddaughter, Bridget Dawn Houk. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Joyce Scott of the home, three sons, David (Revonda) Scott of Bolivar, Missouri, Steve (Kathy) Scott of Bolivar, Missouri, Tim (Patsy) Scott of Bolivar, Missouri, four daughters, Vickie (Terry) Sowers of Bolivar, Missouri, Debbie Jenkins of Kansas City, Missouri, Beckie (Tim) Bolin of Bolivar, Missouri, Lisa (Danny) Cowden of Bolivar, Missouri, 11 grandchildren, Scott Sowers, Tom Sowers, Courtney Welch, Cassie Scott, Ashlee Jenkins, Shawna Hartshorn, Sheila Rumfelt, James Houk, Brandon Scott, Stephanie Scott, Brantley Scott, 3 step grandchildren, Shanna Ashlock, Mike Bolin, Kristen Mann, 4 great grandchildren, Camden, Chyler, Adrian, Andrew, and 4 step great grandchildren, Madison, Dylan, Lacey and Ella. A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00pm, Saturday, May 1, 2010 at the First Christian Church in Bolivar, Missouri with Reverend Jerry Book officiating. Music selections will be "Amazing Grace" and "There Is A Fountain" by Mike Stephens and David Vincent along with Jean Vincent as the accompanist. David Vincent will also be playing the harmonica. The processional song will be "When I Get Carried Away". Burial will follow at Crestview Memorial Gardens in Bolivar under the care and direction of the Butler Funeral Home of Bolivar, Missouri with Military Honors provided by the AMVETS Post #114 of Flemington, Missouri and the Missouri Military Honors Team of Springfield, Missouri. A visitation will be from 5:00-7:00pm, Friday evening at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Charley York, Nick Maas, Steve Sukovaty, Rick Shuler, Bret Overholtzer and David Overholtzer.
