Kenneth P. Floyd

Kenneth Paul Floyd, 72, of Flemington died Wednesday evening February 11, 2009, after fiercely battling cancer. Kenneth was born December 18, 1936 in Pittsburgh, MO, the son of Walter Thomas Floyd and Molly Bell Eyre Floyd. He grew up around Pittsburgh and Elkton and attended 1st through 8th grade at Fox Ridge School. He graduated from Wheatland High School in 1955. Between 1955 and 1964, Kenneth was employed by Bill Roberts in Polk County and also worked at Sears in Kansas City. He made many friends while working at Sears and kept in contact with some of them his entire life. Also during this time he became a member of the U.S. Army Reserves. On March 21, 1964 Kenneth was united in marriage to Mary Margaret Ayers and to this union was born 1 child. A few years later, Kenneth quit working at Sears and went to work for Associated Grocers. Even though Kenneth liked Kansas City, he wanted to get back to the area where he grew up, and in April of 1970 the family moved to a farm north of Flemington where he lived the remainder of his life. Kenneth really enjoyed farming. For a while he raised hogs and milked cows, but for many years he raised beef cattle. The constant on the farm was horses. Kenneth loved horses and he was a good horseman. He broke several horses to ride and raised several colts. He always said there was nothing better than a good quarter horse. At various times Kenneth worked to supplement the farm income. He worked at Teters in Bolivar for a period of time and also on the farms of Gerald Vanderford and Lionel Lear. Kenneth had a kind heart and was ready and willing to help out neighbors, family and friends at a moment s notice. He was also full of fun and you didn t have to be around him very long before he was making you smile and laugh. He received an incredible amount of enjoyment out of teasing people and kidding around, and he never ran out of jokes or funny stories to tell. Even when the challenges of cancer caused him to see doctors multiple times a week and be in the hospital for extended periods at CMH and at KU, he never lost that amazing ability to make people laugh. All the clinical staff that treated him commented on his patience, kindness and light-heartedness and what a wonderful attitude he had about life. Kenneth leaves behind to cherish his memory his daughter, Kim Brown and grandson Seth, his sister Wanda Garretson, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Frank Ayers & wife Jean, Fred Ayers & wife Mary, Joyce Ellis, and Pauline Ayers-Menk, friend and caregiver, Diann Floyd and a number of nieces and nephews. Kenneth was preceded in death by his wife Mary, parents Walter and Molly Bell, son-in-law, Steve Brown, sister-in-law, Frances Blake, brothers-in-law, Bill Garretson, Joe Ellis and Hugo Menk. Kenneth will be deeply missed. His smile and joyful spirit will not be forgotten and will be carried in the hearts of those that knew him. Funeral services will be Sunday, February 15, 2009 at 2:00 PM in Murray Funeral Home, Humansville, with Rev. Jack Sawyers officiating. Interment will be in the Humansville Cemetery.
