Rev. C.J. Greer

Rev. C. J. Greer joined his beloved wife, Carrie Elizabeth, in their heavenly home on April 24, 2013 while surrounded by loving family. Charles Junior Greer was born on July 4, 1921, in Gillette, Wyoming. His parents and five siblings, a grandson, Jay Woodmansee, and great-granddaughter, Madison Dawn Greer preceded him in death. After being honorably discharged from the U.S. Army in World War II, C. J. and Carrie moved to Springfield, Missouri, in 1948, where he attended and graduated from Central Bible Institute. Rev. Greer and Carrie pioneered and pastored Brighton Highway Assembly of God in Brighton, Missouri, for 40 years. During his pastorate many ministers were called into full-time Christian ministry. In addition to pastoring other churches, he celebrated over 60 years in active ministry. C. J. started as an iron worker while he was a student at Central Bible Institute, and worked that trade for 28 years, while pastoring. He and his wife raised their five children with the ethics of hard work, owning and operating the Elm Valley Goat Dairy from 1957 through 1984. He raised and trained Border collie dogs. He was adamant about supporting political causes to help keep America "free." During the last years of his life he authored an autobiography, enjoyed writing friends, and usually won in "Boggle" word games! He could still quote all of the Scriptures and poems he had committed to memory! C. J. is survived by his five children and spouses: Carrie Ann Simmons and Ron; Glen Ray Greer and Sue; Twyla Menzies and Bruce; Olen Lee Greer and Gail; and Eva Dee Chastain and Mike. Others remaining include grandchildren: Bruce, Ray, Kari, Joy, Aaron, Steven, Bradley, Michael, Tonya, Tim, Kristen, Johnathan and Joanna, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and an innumerable host of friends and acquaintances (especially Mary Ball). The family wishes to express their appreciation to the health care staff at Cox Health for the kind expert care given to their Dad. They especially want to mention Doctors Kwon, Kamel, Nayur, and Gill, and the exceptional staff at Cox Walnut Lawn, Transitional Care Unit. Final arrangements are by Butler Funeral Home in Bolivar, Mo. Visitation will be Friday, May 3, 2013, from 6-8 pm. at Brighton Highway Assembly of God, Brighton, Missouri. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m., Saturday, May 4th, at the church. Following the services there will be a military 21-gun salute.
