William A. 'Bill' Maack

OBITUARY WILLIAM A. MAACK, JR. William A. Maack, Jr. was born April 29, 1929 in Ludlow (Livingston County) Missouri to William A. Maack Sr. and Margaret Faye (Johnson) Maack and passed away June 14, 2006 at the Dallas County Care Center following a brief illness. Bill graduated from high school in Iola, KS. He later moved with his family to Polk, MO where the first piece of mail that was received was his draft notice. Bill entered the service in 1951 and served during the Korean Conflict and completed active duty in 1953. He served in the reserves until 1959. Bill and his father began training horses at Maack Stables in Polk in 1953. From this stable, Bill has shown horses and made many good friends all over the country competing in shows in Missouri, Iowa, Kansas, Arkansas and South Dakota, and the National Walking Horse Celebration in Tennessee. Bill continued to train horses at that location until his retirement in 2005. You could always expect Bill to have a "witty story" or joke or two to tell. Bill married Mae Snodgrass in 1958. To this union three children were born, Susie, Mike and Jennifer. He was active on the Bolivar R1 Board of Education serving 9 years, a Charter member of the Midwest Walking Horse Trainers Association, Charter Member of the Heart of America Walking Horse, Lifetime member of the Bolivar Saddle Club, Tennessee Walking Horse Breeders Association (serving on the national board for three years). As you can tell from this list of civic activities, Bill was very involved in horses, and was exceptionally proud of his children as they began showing, and later training horses. There is something to be said when four generations have successfully shown horses. As well as horses, Bill and Mae raised beef cattle for many years. Survivors include his wife Mae of the home, two daughters; Susie and husband Rick Graham of Bolivar; Jennifer and husband Donny Condren of Goodson; and one son Mike and wife Katie of Warrensburg, MO; two sisters, Marilyn Maack and Mary Frances Enderle of Kansas City, MO; Four grandchildren, Douglas, Ross, and Hayli Maack and Cole Condren. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 16, 2006 at 10:00 AM in the Butler Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Efton Piper officiating. Also speaking will be Morris Westfall, Jim Huffman, and Jerry Laughlin. Burial will be in the Mt. View Cemetery at Polk under the direction of the Butler Funeral Home of Bolivar. Military Honors will be by the Flemington AMVETS Post # 114. Casketbearers will be: Dr. Glenn Degraffenreid, Floyd Posenke, Max Roweton, Levi Downey, Ed Reidesel, and Jerry Manes.
