Dr. Carol Sue Bevier

October 17, 1934 - March 31, 2022

Dr. Carol Sue Bevier, 87, passed away March 31, 2022 at Citizens Memorial Hospital in Bolivar. Carol was born October 17, 1934 in Brookfield, MO. She graduated from Brookfield High School in 1952 and entered Central Missouri State College in Warrensburg, MO. She received a bachelor's degree in music education in 1956. Carol began her first teaching position at Bolivar R-1 Schools, grades 1 through 12. She conducted two girls Glee Clubs, two boys Glee Clubs and a mixed chorus. Carol started a master's of music degree program at Northwestern University in Evanston, IL. which she completed in 1966. She applied for a position at the college after completing her master's degree and was offered a teaching position in the music department. Carol had applied for entrance into the doctoral program in musicology at North Texas State University in Denton, Texas. She was accepted into the program and began courses in 1967. Carol took several students groups on European excursions. For several years she and fellow professors took students to various countries including England, Belgium, Germany, France, Italy, Austria and Switzerland. They visited art museums, churches, cathedrals, castles and attended various concerts. Carol retired from SBU in 2000. Carol is preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Virginia (Diemer) Bevier and a brother, William Herbert Bevier. Survivors include nieces and nephews, Jerry Bevier, Niota, IL, Meri Jenkins, Carthage, IL, Kerry Bevier, Denmark, IA, Jena McManus, Bozeman, MT, Andy Bevier, Nauvoo, IL, and Joe Bevier, Bozeman, MT. Visitation will be held 1:00 PM to 1:30 PM Saturday, April 30, 2022 at the Butler Funeral Home in Bolivar, MO. Memorial services will be held 1:30 PM Saturday, April 30, 2022 at the Funeral Home. Inurnment will take place in her birth city of Brookfield, MO. A memorial in lieu of flowers will be established to provide and install a memorial plaque at SBU and support the scholarship established in her name at the SBU music department.
