Zelma Lois Chastain

Zelma Lois Brown Chastain, 85, passed away on June 11, 2014 surrounded by family. She was born March 6, 1929 to Athal Brown and Winnie Barker Brown. She was saved in January 1948 and baptized later the following spring. Zelma and Bazle Grant Chastain were married on October 14, 1950. To this union was born Lenora June Chastain Semler, Zelma Gene Chastain Noble, Joetta Kay Chastain Reetz, and Jimmie Grant Chastain. She was a role model for being a compassionate woman of action. She was a 4-H leader, teacher, mentor and listener. She was generous with her time. She was always just a phone call away if you ever needed anything. It seemed that no matter what she was doing she'd drop it all just to make sure she could help you out. She was a wonderful cook who didn't use any recipes. She could sew clothes and piece together quilts from recycled clothing or leftover material. She could crochet with yarn or cotton thread from a pattern or by looking at a picture or using an idea that she had. She had a green thumb in the garden, with house plants and landscapes. According to granddaughters Schylene, Alexandria and Justine "Grandma was the most patient person in the world!" and she was always available by phone. All are valuable lessons that Zelma Lois Brown Chastain shared with us. We are her legacy to carry on her love for living. Zelma is survived by daughter Gene Noble and her husband Bill, daughter Joetta Reetz; son Jimmie Chastain and his fiance' Marilynn; grandchildren William Noble, Schylene Sanders, Alexandria Reetz, Justine Chastain, Nicholas Semler, Jonathan Semler; great-grandchildren Abigail Noble, Ceresa Noble, Jillian Noble, Samantha Noble, Edin Sanders, Nick Semler, Kayla Semler, Grant Semler, Farran Semler; sister Shirley Stewart; sisters-in-love Betty Chastain and Peggy Chastain; many nephews and nieces. A Bushel, A Peck and a Hug Around the Neck. We love You! Celebration of life services will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, June 14, 2014 at Murray Funeral Home in Bolivar with Rev. David Stunkel officiating. Music will be provided by Lacey Borvit. Interment will be immediately following in the Barren Creek Cemetery near Fair Play. Visitation will be held from 6-8 PM on Friday evening at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Make A Wish foundation in Zelma's memory.
