William Milford Witt

Bill Witt, 71, of Humansville, Missouri passed away Wednesday, November 6, 2013 at Citizens Memorial Hospital in Bolivar. Born in Kansas City, Missouri Bill moved to Collins, Missouri at an early age. He was a member of the Collins High School Class of 1960. On May 15, 1964 he and Darlene were married. Bill was serving in the US Army and they moved from Fort Leonard Wood to Fort Belvoir, Virginia to Fort Knox, Kentucky before he shipped overseas to serve in Thailand. After his discharge Bill and Darlene settled in Humansville where they raised their family. Bill was a mechanic during his military service and his civilian life as well. He worked at the Watt 66 Service Station in Humansville for many years. He was active in Humansville community affairs serving on the City Council and as President of the Chamber of Commerce. He was the Humansville Fire Chief for over 20 years. He also served as the President of the Polk County Fire, Rescue, and Training Association from 1987-1994. Bill was a member of the American Legion Post 276 in Humansville and a member of the 40/8 Club in Springfield. Bill was very good at working with his hands. He enjoyed fixing things, whether metal or wood, as long as his health permitted. He could always seem to conceive doing things in a better, easier way. He was saved at an early age and was a member of the Collins Christian Church. Bill was preceded in death by his foster parents, Ben and Florence Witt and his mother Thelma Follett. He is survived by his wife Darlene of the home; son Kenneth Witt of Bolivar; daughter Lynn Eagon and her husband Warren of Halfway, Missouri; grandsons Jay and Jeff Witt and Darren Eagon; great-grandson Stetson Witt; brother Mike Follett and his wife Katie of Moberly, Missouri; sisters Pat Follett of Kansas City, Missouri and Sherry Johnston and her husband Mike of Excelsior Springs, Missouri; and other relatives. Funeral services for Bill Witt will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, November 12, 2013 at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Springfield officiated by Bro. Dale Coffin with full military honors.
