Velma Charlean Stalker

Velma Charlean (Barker) Stalker, age 85, of Bolivar, Missouri passed away at 7:20am, Thursday, May 8, 2008 in her home. She was born on December 30, 1922 in Bolivar, Missouri to Jess and Katie (Inglis) Barker. Charlean graduated from Bolivar High School in the class of 1941, and later attended Southwest Baptist University and Southwest Missouri State University where she earned a degree as an Elementary School Educator. She taught elementary school for a total of 30 years, and retired from Halfway, Missouri in 1988. Charlean was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Bolivar, Missouri. After retirement, she avidly enjoyed fishing, traveling, quilting, and spending time with her family. Many will miss her. Charlean and Carl (Dick) Stalker were united in marriage on December 24, 1949, and together they raised twelve children. Charleans surviving children include Peggy King and her husband Randy of Bolivar, Missouri, Marcia Lowrance and her husband Rod of Pleasant Hope, Missouri, Jesse Stalker and his wife Sharon of Ozark, Missouri, Katie Stewart and her husband Vic of Halfway, Missouri, Carla Duff and her husband Ron of Pleasant Hope, Missouri, Pam Kelly and her husband Larry of Pleasant Hope, Missouri, Elizabeth "Rusty" Jones of Buffalo, Missouri, Dorothy Thompson of Stover, Missouri, Lee Warren Stalker and his wife JoAnn of Stover, Missouri, and Carlene Melton and her husband Kenneth of St. Charles, Missouri. She also leaves behind a brother, I.N. Barker and his wife Virginia of Halfway, Missouri, numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, her very special fishing friend, Don Smith, and her loving dog and companion, Jack. Charlean was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Carl Stalker, a son, Donald Stalker, a daughter, Velma Robertson, three sisters, Blanche Barker, Opha Mische, and Betty Blankenship, and two brothers, J.W. Barker and her twin brother Charles Barker. Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 11, 2008 from 6:00-7:00 p.m. at the Butler Funeral Home in Bolivar, Missouri, and funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, May 12, 2008 at the First Assembly of God Church in Bolivar, Missouri with Reverend Gary Ankrom officiating.
