Toni Underwood

Toni Pal Underwood, 61, Fair Play, went to be with the Lord at 10:03 PM Monday, August 24, 2009 in Cox South Hospital following a short illness. She was born to Leonard and Essie (Foster) Durham November 13, 1947. She was a 1965 graduate of Fair Play High School. Toni was united in marriage to Paul Underwood April 16, 1966. Four children were born to this union. Toni loved yard sales. You could always find her at the Fair Play Sale Barn on Tuesday mornings looking for a bargain for her family. She had three special friends with whom she loved to drink coffee, talk and laugh for hours. Toni also loved animals and raised dogs in her kennel for years. She once said, Dogs are your best friend, they always love you and they never talk back. To her grandchildren she will always be remembered as Pal. She always wanted to be more than a grandma a friend a pal, someone they could talk to and this she was. Toni was a very special person who had an unconditional love for her children, grandchildren, family and friends. She always raised a big garden. She would work in the garden all day and then stay up late canning so the family could have food in the months to come. She was firm, yet loving and forgiving. She had a love that would say, No, even when in her heart she wanted to say yes but know no would make you a better person in years to come. A love that always put her children s needs first, she would get down her hands and knees to pick up walnuts day after day to make sure her young children got Christmas. A love that loved at all times even when we were unlovable. A love that she would once again get on her knees and pray her teenager home safely, and pray for God s protection upon her family and friends. An unconditional love that was honest, loving, good and unselfish. This was the kind of mother Toni Underwood was. She was a member of Harvest Assembly of God in Fair Play for many years. Her parents, Leonard and Essie Durham, preceded her in death. She is survived by her children, Cynthia Devereux and husband, John, Bolivar, Matthew Underwood and wife, Susan, Humansville, Toni Rae Stewart and husband, Dennis, Weaubleau and Michael Underwood and Amber Wilder, Fair Play; her children s dad, Paul Underwood, Fair Play; grandchildren, Kyle and Kelly Winfiel, Danny Devereux, Christa and Maggie Johnston, Logan Underwood, Danni Bough, Marriah, Dawson and Raeden Stewart; 1 great-grandson, Jacob Devereux; three very special life long friends, Jeanie Mason, Dadeville, Jolene Flint, Bolivar and Wilma Mead, Bolivar and a host of other family and friends. Toni will be sadly missed by all who know and loved her. Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM Friday, August 28, 2009 at Murray Funeral Home, Bolivar, with Rev. Norman Culbertson and Rev. Matthew Underwood officiating. Interment will be in Mitchell Campground Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 6:30 to 8:00 PM. PDF Printable Version
