Rex Brown

Donald Rex Brown, 85, of Humansville passed away Thursday, October 2, 2014 at Citizen's Memorial Hospital in Bolivar, Missouri. Rex was born March 12, 1929 in Humansville, Missouri to Leroy Viles and Leora (Quillen) Brown. Rex married Carolyn Sue Taylor June 7, 1949 in Harrison, Arkansas and to that union four children were born. As a soldier in the US Army, he was wounded in Korea and was honored for his service with a Purple Heart and two Bronze Stars. Rex was a barber and owned his own barbershop in Humansville, where in later years his daughter would own a beauty shop in the same location. He was also a truck driver and belonged to the Teamster Union and also Barber Union. He was a member of the Jr. Jaycee's and the American Legion. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and especially traveling in their 5th wheel camper, which they did for thirteen years. One of his favorite past times was people watching because he loved to visit with people and he never met a stranger. However, his very best pal was his dog.....Augie. Those who survive Rex, are his wife Carolyn of 65 years, still residing in Humansville; son Danny Ray Brown and wife, Cindy of Humansville; daughters Janet Sue Keith and husband Phil of Humansville, Rhonda Jean Powell and husband Ed of Lees Summit, Bonnie Garver Weaver Brown and husband Jamie Weaver of Humansville; grandchildren Terry Keith, Jamie Karl, Brandon Garver, Anthony Garver, Ashley Powell, Donald Ray Brown, Raylene Tormanen and Austin Weaver; 10 great grandchildren; one great, great grandchild; and 2 sisters-in-law, Dorothy Janssen, Humansville and Bonita Cochran Kohlstaedt, Kansas City. Preceding Rex in death were his parents, his brothers; Forrest T. Brown, Gerald Brown, Tommy Lee Brown and sister, Floriene Tincy Ireland. Services for Donald Rex Brown will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, October 7, 2014 at Murray Funeral Home in Humansville. Interment will be at the Alder Cemetery following service. Visitation will be held Monday, October 6, 2014 from 6 to 8 PM at the funeral home. Donations to American Cancer Society suggested by family.
