Paul R. Steffens

Paul R Steffens, 92, Humansville, passed away July 4, 2008. Paul was born September 13, 1915 in Miller SD to Jake and Margaret Steffens. His parents, two brothers, Bill and John and a sister, Dena preceded him in death. Paul is survived by his loving and devoted wife of almost 50 years, Marcene, sons Joe, Gary & Michael (Myra), daughters Paula Routh (Gary), Debbie Kremer (Terry) & Linda Andrews (Rich), grandchildren Neil, Bryan, Lyndie, Gabriella, Gabrielle, Hunter, Mason, Madison & Brogan, and sisters Mary, Agnes & Gertrude all from his original home state of South Dakota which he called "God's Country". Paul is also survived by a huge extended family and many friends and neighbors who were so good to be there any day and any time he needed them. Paul was a hardworking man and a good provider for his family. In addition to farming, he drove an MFA feed truck out of Bolivar until retiring in 1980. Upon retirement he learned the joy of relaxing, which included touring & traveling new parts of the country with BJ, as well as familiar parts of the country to visit family & friends. He especially enjoyed his annual army reunions as the bond those men shared was incredible, and his annual Veteran's Day trip to the casino. Other retirement hobbies included working in the garden, exploring the world wide web and just "tinkering" around the house. Paul was a member of St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Humansville and throughout his life was passionate about his faith. Paul's ultimate enjoyment in life was time with friends and family, who will miss him dearly. Paul served in the US Army from November 13, 1940 to November 8, 1945 where he was stationed in New Guinea and the Philippines. He was a proud veteran of World War II and was patriotic until the very end. He was passionate about the flag, our national anthem and all they stood for and then was chosen to depart this life on our country's most celebrated day of freedom. He fought hard and brave for our freedoms and now he finally has his. Graveside services with military rites will be at 10:00 AM Monday, July 7, 2008 in Humansville Cemetery with Father Pat Wissman officiating.
