Nolan Joseph Boyle

Nolan Joseph Boyle, 87, of Humansville, passed away at CMH Hospital in Bolivar on Saturday, April 28, 2012. He was born in Elkton, Missouri, the son of John Joseph and Hazel Marie Certain Boyle. In the 30's Nolan and his father went to California where his father purchased a cotton ranch. Nolan later returned to Missouri with a threshing crew and worked in the surrounding area before traveling back to California to harvest olives. In 1942 he returned to Elkton and met Mae who would become his wife and companion for the next 69 and a half years. They married November 1, 1942, and in March 1943 Nolan was drafted into the U.S. Marine Corps. During his 2 year tour of duty with the Marines he was a scout, sniper, and a heavy machine gun crewman receiving wounds on 2 separate occasions. He was a recipient of several service medals for his wartime service. He was of the Baptist faith and a member of the Elkton Baptist Church. Nolan was a carpenter working out of the Kansas City Carpenters Union for his career. He worked on the Kay Singer Basin Dam project and finished his working career by working on the Callaway Nuclear Plant in Fulton, Missouri. Nolan and Mae moved to Humansville in 1976 from the Kansas City area. He and Mae owned and operated the Poor Girls and 1 Poor Boy Antique Store in Weaubleau for 22 years. He loved hunting, fishing, his animals, and being outdoors. He enjoyed being with his children and grandchildren. In later years his passion became the construction and completion of the Veterans Memorial at Weaubleau and he looked forward to working on the renovation of the community building in Humansville. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion and the VFW. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Eldon Lee Boyle and John Boyle, Jr. He is survived by his wife Cleo Mae; son Donald Nolan Boyle and wife Janet of Osceola; daughter Joyce Hughes of Humansville; grandsons Larry D. Walters and wife Selena; Donald Joseph Boyle and wife Sherry; Terry Joe Boyle and friend Gina Stewart; Michael Walters; granddaughter JoDona Schussler; step-grandchildren Joe Mangum, Greg Mangum, Julie Witt; sisters Geneta Sears of Peculiar, Missouri and Pansey Stevens and husband Junior of Riverside, California; 16 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren. Gravesite services will be held 11 AM Wednesday, May 2, 2012 at the Humansville Cemetery with Greg Mangum officiating and military rites by the AmVets Post 114 of Flemington. A dinner will be served following the service at the AmVets Post 114 in Flemington. Food may be delivered to the post beginning at 10AM. PDF Printable Version
