Mildred A. Sell

Mildred Alice (Corbin) Sell, second child of Beulah Myrtle (Wilkerson) and Raymond Corbin, was born May 10, 1923 in Cherryvale, Kansas. She departed this life June 16, 2011 at Saint Luke s East Hospital in Lee s Summit following a short illness at age 88. During her childhood, her family lived in various locations in St. Clair, Hickory and Newton counties in Missouri. Mildred often fondly recalled many incidents of her life in rural Missouri, including winding the Maypole during their years in Neosho, MO. During the 1940 s her family moved to Kansas City, where she worked as a welder building bombers to support the war efforts of World War II. On November 19, 1950, Mildred was united in marriage to Robert Francis Sell and 4 children were born to this union. After the war ended, Mildred worked at Montgomery Ward until 1954 when she chose to become a full-time mother and homemaker for her growing family. Mildred was known for her excellent seamstress abilities and particularly her enjoyment of piecing quilts. In addition to traveling, camping and fishing with her family, Mildred and Robert enjoyed maintaining a small farm which included a large garden, multiple berry patches and various types of livestock. Even after the death of her husband in 1995, Mildred continued to enjoy, on a more limited basis, many of those pursuits. Her parents, husband, Robert, son, Eldon Raymond Sell, two brothers, Floyd Ray Corbin and Carlos Wayne Corbin; and two sisters, Melba May Faulkenberry and Zeda Belle Eiskina, preceded her in death. Mildred is survived by two daughters, Mildred Frances Sell, Kansas City, MO and Carolyn Alice Zinn and husband, Larry, Long Lane, MO; one son, David Aaron Sell and wife, Meg, Peculiar, MO; six grandchildren, Shawn, Jeanne and husband, Kirk, Molly and husband, Richard, Amanda, Melanie and Ben; 1 great-granddaughter, Hayley; daughter-in-law, Lisa Sell; sisters-in-law, Wynona Corbin, Donna Sell, Berniece Sell and Maxine Corbin; other relatives and friends. Mildred was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, daughter and aunt, a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and know that she will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by all of her family and many friends. Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM Monday, June 20, 2011 at Murray Funeral Home, Bolivar with Rev. Joe Coppedge officiating. Interment will be in Flemington Cemetery. PDF Printable Version
