Mildred Almeta Hammons

Mildred Almeta Hammons, age 84 years, 1 month and 21 days, of Bolivar, Missouri passed away on Monday, April 9, 2007 at 1:30pm in The Manor At Elfindale in Springfield, Missouri after a long bout with Alzheimer's. She was born February 19, 1923 the eldest child of Glen and Ella Cully. She attended school and graduated from Humansville. She married Harry "Bob" Hammons on April 25, 1943. Together they had two children, Robert and Kay Frances. She was a mother and homemaker for many years before continuing her education at Southwest Baptist College. She graduated in 1965 with a bachelors degree in Elementary Education. She taught fifth and sixth grades at Bolivar Primary School for many years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Bolivar, MO. She was also a charter member of the Polk County Humane Society. She enjoyed children, animals, cooking, sewing and traveling. Mildred was always taking care of someone. For many years she cared for elderly family members as well as her grandchildren. Mildred was preceded in death by her Parents, Husband Bob in 2004, Daughter Kay Frances McGowan in 2001, Grandson Michael McGowan in 2001, Brothers Wendell Cully and Gene Cully, Sisters Eileen Murski and Kathleen Stewart. She is survived by her Son; Robert and his wife Krista of Springfield, MO., Grandchildren; Ashley and Justin Ballard of Bolivar, MO., Chad Hammons of Springfield, MO., Jennifer Hammons of Springfield, MO., Brothers; Keith and Carol Cully of Buffalo, MO., Weldon and Wanda Cully of Odessa, MO., Jim and Joann Cully of Memphis, Tennessee, Sisters; Charlene and Doug Simpson of Kansas City, MO., Corale and Jerry Altman of Lawrence, KS., many Nieces, Nephews, Cousins and Friends. The family would like to thank the staff at The Manor At Elfindale for the wonderful care they provided over the past year and a half. Funeral Services will be 2:00pm, Friday, April 13, 2007 at the Butler Funeral Chapel, Bolivar, MO. with Rev. Virgil Kearney officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Bolivar, MO. Visitation will be from 6-7pm, Thursday, April 12, 2007 at the funeral home. The family suggests contributions to the Alzheimer's Association or to the Polk County Humane Society.
