Merle Francis Burbaugh Sr.

Merle F. Burbaugh Sr, 89, of Flemington, Missouri left this world on January 8, 2013. He was born the eldest of 5 children to Eurotis W. and Lillian Mather Burbaugh in Marion, Ohio. Merle was a WWII veteran where he proudly served his country in war zones as a Merchant Marine. He worked 35 years for Cummins Diesel, living in many states before retiring as Branch Manager for Cummins Diesel in Springfield. He was of the Methodist faith. He belonged to the AmVets Post 114 in Flemington. Merle was an interesting man, often called "Merlin" by his friends and family because he seemed to be able to create any sort of mechanical contraption to suit his needs and had the ability to repair or fix anything. He was a fisherman and loved teaching his children how to fish, boat, and camp. He loved to cook. He liked the outdoors, enjoyed playing golf, and was a licensed pilot for small aircraft. Merle was preceded in death by his parents, wife and mother of his children Audrey A. Burbaugh, both his brothers and his sisters and two grandsons. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Shelby Jean Burbaugh of the home, sons Merle F. Burbaugh Jr. and his wife Pam of El Paso, Texas, Lee Burbaugh of Bolivar, Missouri, Frank J. Burbaugh and his wife Dixie of Flemington, Missouri, Glen W. Burbaugh of Virginia, Kim Burbaugh of Madison, Wisconsin; daughters Audrey Redburn and her husband Michael of Estero, Florida, Amy Burbaugh of Panama City, Florida, Angel Burbaugh and her partner Mark of Kansas City, Missouri, Alice Caddock and her husband Chris of Rome, Georgia, Sandy Granger and her partner Larry of Buffalo, Missouri, Karen Jeffery and her husband Keith of Perris, California; 19 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild with one more of the way. Memorial services will be held at 1 PM Saturday, January 12 at the AmVets Post 114 in Flemington officiated by Chaplain James Friend. Inurnment will take place at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Springfield at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations are suggested to the Disabled Veterans Association in memory of Merle F.
