Mary Odith Duncan

Mary Odith Duncan, 95, of Humansville went home to be with her Savior, Thursday afternoon, August 22and at her residence with her family at her side. She was one of 4 children born near Galmey, Missouri to Asa Roy and Nancy Edna Pitts Tinsley. Mary Odith married Russell David Duncan September 13, 1941 and they were married for 37 years before his tragic death. Together they managed the MFA Exchange in Flemington where he served as manager and Mary Odith was the bookkeeper and ran the store. They were the parents of their only child Donald Joe Duncan who passed away one month after Russell David's fatal accident in 1978. She was a longtime member of the Rondo Baptist Church. Mary Odith led a very active life. While in her 80's she was still working the farm, managing her cowherd, and riding her 3 wheeler. She was a member of the Stitch and Chatter Club and loved to quilt and sew. She enjoyed gardening, watching over her plants and flowers with care and then canning the produce. Her family thought she made the best peach butter. Sunday dinners with her extended family were a frequent occurrence throughout the years. Mary Odith loved to go fishing and that pastime continued into her later years as well. She loved card parties of Canasta and Rook and was a regular consumer of garage sale items. Mary Odith was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son; and brothers Joe Willis Tinsley and Alvin Eugene Tinsley. She is survived by her sister Lucille Bishop of Humansville; sister-in-law Irene Tinsley of Humansville; grandson David J. Duncan and his wife Pamela of Humansville; great-grandchildren Macy, Callie and Tanner Sellers; granddaughter Julie Paxton and her husband Mike of Sedalia; great-grandchildren Shawn Henry and Jacob Paxton; nieces and nephews Alvin Tinsley and his wife Ida of Warrensburg, John Tinsley and his wife Karen of Humansville, Sue Jenkins and her husband Larry of Humansville, Ella Jean Nelson and her husband John of Dunnegan, Vonna Bauer of Bolivar, Kathy DuBose and her husband Joe of Humansville; many great-nieces, great-nephews and friends. Funeral services for Mary Odith Duncan will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, August 25, 2013 at Murray Funeral Home in Humansville officiated by Rev. L. Joe Coppedge. Vonna Bauer and Ella Jean Nelson will sing "Where We'll Never Grow Old" and "Beyond the Sunset". Pallbearers will be David Duncan, Alvin Tinsley, Larry Jenkins, and Joe DuBose. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time. Burial will follow at the Flemington Cemetery. Memorials in Mary Odith's honor are suggested to the Rondo Baptist Church.
