James Edward Scott

James Edward Scott, age 73, passed away in the comfort of his home on October 26, 2017 in Halfway, Missouri, surrounded by family. James was born July 19, 1944 to Romas and Sam Ethel (Leggett) Scott in Halls, Tennessee, one of 9 children. He graduated from Halls High school in 1963, from there James moved to Bensenville, Illinois for work where he met his beautiful bride, Frances Elizabeth Platcher. They were married on May 14, 1966 in Bensenville, Illinois. In August of 1969 his wife and he settled in Halfway, Missouri. He worked for ten years at Clark Forklift in Springfield, Missouri as a service manager. In 1979 he left his job at Clark to farm full-time with his wife and children. Over the course of the years doing so, they ran a dairy operation for 25 years, eventually transitioning to beef cattle in 2000 to present. James always made family a priority. Spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren brought him great joy. His passion was tending to his cattle in all aspects, including building up the genetics of the Holstein breed. He spent a great deal of time reading and researching genetics. James also enjoyed spending time making wine, bee-keeping, watching over the farm and creatively fixing anything that needed fixed. He could easily fix a broken tractor, as one of his many God given talents included being mechanically inclined. James is survived by his wife Frances; daughter, Deborah Elizabeth (Scott) Brown, (spouse) Michael Brown and daughter Taylor King; son Matthew Edward Scott (spouse) Rebbecca (McIntire) Scott and their two children Mikayla Renee Scott, and Garret Lee Scott. Siblings, Ronald Scott (spouse) Janine and Ruby (Scott) Howse. Preceded in death by his parents Romas and Sam Ethel Scott. Siblings, Ethel Scott, Betty Scott, Maie (Scott) Yarbrough, Lorene (Scott) Cobb, Donald Scott, survived by his wife Vernice; Jimmy Scott, survived by his wife Peggy; along with many other loving family, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and family friends. Visitation will be Monday, October 30, 2017 at Butler Funeral home from 5-7pm. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 31, 2017 at Sacred Heart Church at 10:00 am. Burial will follow at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery.
