Reverend Earl Rogers

Reverend Earl Rogers, devout husband, ardent father, nurturing grandfather, passed on to a hero's welcome with unfathomable heavenly rewards this day of August 20, 2007 at the age of 90. Earls journey began September 24, 1916 born to Inez and John Rogers of Mokane, Missouri. On September 15, 1938 Earl married a one Lucille Webster in Booneville, Missouri. On December 31, 1941 Earl was given a son, Kenneth Rogers, his only child. At the start of WWII, Earl began work on the Katy Railroad as a traveling engineer, steaming out of St. Louis to points west transporting men and equipment in the service of his country. Ten years later Earl discovered his true lot in his life, that of a messenger of the gospel of Jesus Christ. From the very first church in Warden, Illinois through the missionary work on the Hopi and Navajo reservations to the last church he led in Hermitage, Missouri spanned over 50 years. Earl retired from pastoring at age 68, yet never retired from preaching. Finally settling in Bolivar, Missouri, Earl became a member of the congregation at Lakeside Assembly of God Church in Pittsburgh, Missouri. Some years later and in failing health Earl packed up his wife and moved to Columbia, Missouri where they were welcomed into the First Assembly of God Church and to be closer to his immediate family and to have them at his side when the Lord called to him and said thy journey is over come home and rest thy weary feet. Earl will always be remembered as a man of unrelenting compassion, gracious strength and having an aura of vibrant kindness that touched the lives of thousands of troubled and disquieted souls. Earl was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Tom and his son Kenneth. He is survived by his wife; Lucille, twin sister; Merle Smith and younger sister Velma Todd, 3 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and 4 great, great grandchildren. Those that knew him are forever enriched in heart and mind. They just don't make 'em like Earl Rogers anymore. Funeral services will be held 10:30am, Thursday, August 23, 2007 at the Butler Funeral Chapel in Bolivar, Missouri with Reverend Gary Parsons officiating. Musical selections will be "Amazing Grace" and "This Is What Heaven Means To Me" by the Parsons Sisters, and a congregational hymn "Victory In Jesus". Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Bolivar, Missouri. Pallbearers will be Steve Rogers, Tom Claypool, Steve Clark, Larry Parsons, Bob Wheelbarger and Art Horn.
