Anna Marie Kathka

Anna Marie "Ann" Kathka (Dorenkamp), age 88, passed away peacefully on July 29, 2026, in Springfield, Missouri. Born on October 6, 1937, in Selden, Kansas, Ann lived a life filled with love, faith, and devotion to her family and community. Ann grew up in Selden and attended a country school through the eighth grade. Determined to further her education, she drove the family’s old Model A into town to attend high school in Selden, where she graduated. It was during these formative years that Ann developed the resilience and work ethic that would define her life. In Selden, at a local dance, Ann met the love of her life, Francis “Dick” Kathka. The two were married on July 28, 1956—fittingly sharing the same wedding anniversary as her parents. Together they began their married life on a small farm outside Danbury, Nebraska. Ann embraced farm life wholeheartedly and could often be found driving the tractor during lunchtime so Dick could take a well-deserved rest. Their partnership was one of mutual respect and unwavering love. Ann dedicated many years to raising her children as a devoted housewife. Once her children had grown and left home, she embarked on a new chapter by joining Citizens Memorial Hospital in Bolivar, Missouri. As part of the hospital's initial custodial staff, Ann took pride in helping clean and prepare the newly constructed building for its opening. Her dedication to her work was evident; she loved her role at the hospital and continued working there until driving became too difficult for her. A devout Catholic throughout her life, Ann’s faith was central to everything she did. Her family often joked that if the church doors were open, she was there—a sentiment not far from the truth. She practiced her religious beliefs with steadfast devotion and kindness that touched everyone who knew her. Ann is survived by her two children: Roger Kathka (Karen) of Springfield, Missouri; and Angela Gries (Joe) of Cliquot, Missouri. She also leaves behind four grandchildren: William Kennedy (Julianna) of Springfield; Jeanna Kennedy Gaik (Jonathan) of St. Charles, Missouri; Amber Trujillo (Ryan) of Sioux City, Iowa; and Jarred Kennedy (Allie) of Cleaver, Missouri; as well as nine great-grandchildren: Connor Kennedy, Charlie Dittrich, Leif Kennedy, Oakley Kennedy, Lily AnaBeth Kennedy, Liam Gaik, Arlo Gaik, Finn Gaik, Otto Truijillo—and one more great-grandchild expected to arrive in September plus many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of nearly 70 years, Francis “Dick” Kathka; her parents Anthony “Tony” Dorenkamp and Anna Dorenkamp (Hanzliicek); and her brother Joseph Anthony Dorenkamp. Ann will be remembered for her selflessness and kindness—a woman who lived out her faith daily through acts of love and generosity. Her legacy lives on through the family she cherished so deeply.
