Alfred Troy Reynolds

Alfred Troy Reynolds was born on November 30, 1932 to Troy V. and Myrtie May Reynolds, south of Tyler village-now Elkton-in Hickory County, Missouri on a farm owned by E.I. Riddle, his departed Grandfather. At 3 or 4 years old, his dad, Troy, moved to Bolivar where he worked as a barber at the City Barber Shop with Ray Gist and Arlen Meador. Al, as he is better known by a nickname given him by Coach Bill Shields, his football coach, and it stuck. At age five, Al started school at Northward and 4th and 7th grade at Southward. Then 4 years at Bolivar High School. After graduation in 1950, he went work at Bolivar Hardware. In 1951 he married Ethel Mae Redford and to this union two children were born, Brenda in 1952 and Randy in 1958. Al worked for Houk Dairy next, then Shade Tree Service as a tree trimmer. Then he was drafted in the Army, serving from September 28, 1953 to September 29, 1955; came home and went to work at Bolivar Hardware, then Goodyear Tire as a salesman until he could start barber school. Al graduated from Moler Barber College in June 1957. He returned to work with his father, Troy, at The Modern Barber Shop where he worked until about 1970. Al went to Georgia and Florida where he worked for Southeastern Cattle Co. as an order buyer. In 1974 he moved to Fairbanks, Alaska where he worked at Gavora Mall Barber Shop. In March 1976 Al opened The Headquarters Men's and Women's Hairstyling. Later he opened Headquarters II in North Pole and Headquarters III in Delta Junction. He also opened Headquarters Barber and Beauty Academy in Fairbanks. In 1981 Randy, his son, came to work at the Headquarters and still maintains a salon in the same mall and space. Al was proud of the three generations in the same profession. Although Al was a good hunter and fisherman, his favorite was coon hunting and his blue tick hounds. In 1987, Al returned to Bolivar to have his eyes operated on and never went back to Alaska except 2 or 3 visits to see Brenda, Randy, and his grandkids. He loved his 2nd home but said, "Alaska-it's a young mans' country." In 1989 Al and Joe Dale Jones opened the Team Cutters Barber Shop on E. Broadway, where Al worked until he retired in 2004 with 46 years, the same as his father, Troy, put in as a barber. In 1990 Al married Jean Schwartz from St. Louis. Al is survived by his wife Jean of the home, daughter Brenda of Bolivar; his son Randy of Fairbanks, Alaska; one granddaughter Natalie, two grandsons, Trevor and Sam, one great granddaughter Aiyanna all of Fairbanks, Alaska; several nieces and nephews in Kansas; one cousin Harold Reynolds and wife Mary Jo, of Springfield, Missouri; and a very special nephew, Roger Chappell and wife Farilyn, of Ozark, Missouri. Al was a member of Mt. Gilead Methodist Church. Al was a member of Masonic Lodge #195 in Bolivar and received his 50 year pin in 2007 of which he was very proud. Al was also a member of the Alaska Shrine. Memorial services will be held 11 AM Saturday, November 10 at Murray Funeral Home, Bolivar with visitation from 10 - 11 AM prior to the service. Burial will immediately follow at Greenwood Cemetery beside his father and mother.
