Alfred Harrison Hammons

Alfred Hammons, age 75, of Dunnegan, Missouri, departed this life on Thursday morning, January 31, 2013 at Lake Stockton Healthcare Facility in Stockton, Missouri. Alfred Harrison Hammons was born on January 7, 1938 in Dunnegan, the son of Melvin Hammons and Helen (Lightfoot) Hammons. He graduated from Stockton High School in 1956. On June 16, 1960 Alfred was united in marriage to Willhemina Lee Masters at the South Street Christian Church in Springfield, Missouri. To this union was born two children; Alfred Jr. and Stephanie Hammons. Following graduation he attended Mortuary School in 1961 at the Dallas Institute in Dallas, Texas. Alfred then graduated from Southwest Missouri State University in 1964 with a B.A. in history and a minor in biology. He then owned and operated Hammons Grocery Store in Stockton from 1962-1966. Alfred attended the University of Missouri School of Pharmacy from 1966-1967. His life work was in Pharmaceuticals, starting with the Upjohn Company and ending with Carolina Medical Products Co. as the National Accounts Manager. He was a member of the Spring Creek Cumberland Presbyterian Church of Dunnegan, a board member of the Dunnegan Cemetery and Vice President of the Dunnegan Volunteer Fire Department, member of the Abou Ben Adhem Shriners, the Masons of the 32 degree, and a member of the Kappa Alpha fraternity. Alfred was preceded in death by his parents; Melvin and Helen Hammons, and two brothers; Eugene Hammons and Harry Robert Hammons. He is survived by his wife; Willhemina Lee Hammons of the home, one son; Alfred Harrison Hammons, Jr. and his wife Susan of Topeka, Kansas, one daughter; Stephanie Pepper and her husband Bryce of Olathe, Kansas, 5 grandchildren; Kaitlyn Hammons, Joshua Hammons, Benjamin Pepper, Samuel Pepper and Andrew Pepper. Funeral services will be held at 10:00am on Monday, February 4, 2013 at the Butler Funeral Home in Bolivar, Missouri with Pastor Scott Garner officiating under the care and direction of the Butler Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 1:00-3:00pm on Sunday, February 3, 2013 at the Butler Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Dunnegan Cemetery in Dunnegan, Missouri.
