Velma B. Hudson

Mrs. Velma B. Latiker Culbertson Hudson, age 83 of Bolivar, went home to be with her Lord at 2:10 PM on Sunday, May 27, 2007 at the Citizens Memorial Healthcare Facility in Bolivar after a very courageous fight with Pulmonary Fibrosis with her daughter at her side. She was born in Humansville, MO on May 7, 1924 the daughter of William Thomas Henry and Lelia Bell Martain. She married Fred M. Latiker on May 9, 1941. To this union was born 3 children, Leon, Darlene, and Jackie. They moved to Bolivar in 1943. Velma was a homemaker until her children started school. Then she worked at school so she could be home with them. She managed the F.M. Store, W. W. Hegle Clothing Store, Amora Enterprises and Carter Jewelry Store. She loved to embroidery, make quilts for her children and grandchildren. She was wonderful with plants and flowers, she could make anything grow and she loved to bake. Velma always had a smile and never complained. She was such a joy to be around. We will miss her so much. Her husband Fred died in Dec. 1971, later she married Kenneth Culbertson, and he died in 1983. She married Robert Hudson on Jan. 14, 2000. They did so many things, went lots of places, and they were perfect together. Velma attended the Grace Fellowship Baptist Church where she was a member as long as her health permitted. Surviving is her husband, Robert L. Hudson and her caregiver of the home; her daughter, Darlene Truitt and husband Wayne of Bolivar; her son, Leon Latiker and wife Marie of Bolivar; her granddaughters, Tammy Bolen and husband Wade of Fair Play; Lisa Latiker of Santa Rose, CA; Gina and Amy; her grandsons, Anthony Latiker and wife Karen of Santa Rosa, CA; Michael, Nickolas and J. D. A step-daughter, Karen Sue Brumfield and husband Dean of Bolivar, MO; and a brother, Guy Henry and wife Joyce of Humansville, MO. Martin Micke and wife Carol, whom she loved like a son and daughter-in-law. Twin great grandchildren Brittani and Brandon Bolen. Sisters-in-law Betty Dobson and Juanita. Also nieces, Linda Lane and husband Mike, Shirley Hall and husband John, Glenda Kay and Janice all of California, and Lori Henry and Aubrey. Nephews George Dewitt, George Edward Dewitt, Terry Chaney, Jim Culbertson and wife Lisa of Sedalia, MO. Her pastor Joe Coppedge and her dear friends, Michael, Karen, Tyler, Josh and Baylea Dennett, Norma Lenz, Uda Faye Combs, Robert Mustain, Marcella Tosh, Carol Bartlett and Lona Hook, Gary, Susan and Derek Carter and Bill Barnhouse, her church family and host of many other friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, W.T. and Lelia Henry, sisters, Beulah, Nina Purtle, and brother-in-law Calvin Purtle, Lori, Pearl, Ida and brothers, Glen, Charles and Arthur. Also her husband Fred Latiker, Kenneth Culbertson, her son Jackie Latiker in June, 1999; her grandson, Timmy Pate in May, 1993, sister-in-law Tincey Ireland, niece Vonnie Glover whom she loved as a sister, nephew Monte Henry, father-in-law Frank Latiker, who was like a father to her. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 30, 2007 at 11:00 AM in the Butler Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Martin Micke and Rev. Joe Coppedge officiating. Musical soloist will be Lavonna Franklin with Erma Delzell as the pianist. Selections will be "One Day At A Time", "Heaven Came Down", and "How Great Thou Art". Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in Bolivar under the direction of the Butler Funeral Home. Casketbearers will be Bill Barnhouse, Michael Dennett, Bob Roberts, Norman Roberts, Gary Jones, Mat Gilmore.
