Eugene "Gene" Price

Eugene "Gene" Price, 80, of Bolivar passed away Monday, March 11, 2013 at Citizens Memorial Hospital in Bolivar. He was born as one of 9 children to James Fredrick and Artie Emma Faye Johnson Price in Springfield, Missouri. Gene married Pauline Martin on november 18, 1951 and they celebrated 51 years of marriage before her passing in 2003. He served 2 years in the U.S. Army and upon discharge in 1957 he and Pauline moved to Bolivar. He worked at various jobs in the area including the Houk Cheese factory for a couple of years before beginning his career in maintenance with the Bolivar school system where he worked for 31 years. He also was a farmer during most of his working life. Gene enjoyed fishing and hunting, especially pheasant hunting with the Kansas Prices's, but his greatest passion was the car races. He would usually attend the races at the Bolivar Speedway and then go to the races in Lebanon the following night. The past several years he would attend the races in Wheatland. Going to the races with his son Robert and Gene's special friend, Caroline Clark was an important time in all their lives. Another favorite and very important pastime for he and Caroline was the Moonshiners Social Club at Pittsburg where many good times were shared. Gene was preceded in death by his parents, wife Pauline, brothers James Price Jr. and Denny Price. He is survived by son Robert Price and his wife Patricia of Bolivar; grandchildren Katherine Price, Sabrina Price and Steven Price; his companion Caroline Clark; brothers Harrison Price and his wife Rosalee of Belton, Missouri, and Kenny Price and his wife Jeanie of Bolivar; sisters Shirley Wilson and her husband John of Bolivar, Wanda Rines of Independence, Missouri, Mary Ellen Yeager of Bolivar, and Helen Snook of Nixa; sisters-in-law Cathy Price of Reeds Spring and Brenda Price of Humansville. Funeral services for Gene Price will be held 11:00 AM Friday, March 15, 2013 at Murray Funeral Home in Bolivar officiated by Pastor Gary Urich and Chaplain James O. Friend with burial to follow at Greenwood Cemetery with full military honors by AmVet Post 114 Honor Guard. A visitation will be held from 6-8 PM on Thursday.
