David Lingo

David Eugene Lingo met his Savior Jesus Christ face to face August 2, 2017. At the time of his home going he was surrounded by his family. David was born August 26, 1947, to Joseph and Alta (Slaughter) Lingo in West Plains, Missouri. He accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior at the tender age of six, and moved at the age of eight to Santiago, Chile, where his family served as missionaries. After ten years on the mission field, David returned to Springfield, Missouri, to attend Baptist Bible College (BBC). During his college years he met Barbara Chandler, who became his loving bride on June 1, 1968, in Halstead, Kansas. While in college, David pastored in Preston, Missouri, and following graduation, he served as associate pastor of First Baptist Church, Hollywood, Florida. In 1976, David and Barbara, along with their two daughters, moved to Bogota, Colombia, to serve as missionaries, planting churches and training students at the Bible institute. In 1986, the then family of five moved to Santiago, Chile, where they opened a Bible institute and planted a church with another missionary family. In 1991, the family returned to Springfield, Missouri, so David’s oldest daughter could attend BBC. At that time, God called David and Barbara to teach and train future missionaries at BBC, a calling they followed for 20 years. During that time, God opened the door for David to pastor Berean Baptist Church in Bolivar, Missouri, where he served for 18 years. As his health declined, he retired from the pastorate in August 2012. David is survived by his wife, Barbara; his daughters and sons-in-law Kristi and Scott Hudgins, Kelli and Mark Garms, and Karri and David Perry; his grandchildren Joy, Chandler, Chad, and Chase Hudgins, Micah and Lauren Garms, and Lianna and Nathanael Perry; his mother Alta Lingo; his brothers and sisters Craig (Fran) Lingo, Janet Curtis, Steven (Ginger) Lingo, and Anita (Mark) Dobrenski; his brother-in-law Greg (Ruth) Chandler; five nieces and eight nephews; and a host of friends. David leaves a beautiful legacy of serving the Lord with his whole heart. He fought the good fight, stayed the course, kept the faith. A visitation will be held from 4:00 – 6:00 pm, on Sunday, August 6, 2017, at the Butler Funeral Home, in Bolivar, Missouri. Funeral services will be at 10:00 am, on Monday, August 7, 2017, at the Berean Baptist Church, in Bolivar, with burial to follow at Greenwood Cemetery, in Bolivar. In lieu of flowers, David's wishes would be that you donate to Berean Baptist Church, Bolivar Missouri, to be designated to missions. Services are under the care and direction of the Butler Funeral Home in Bolivar.
